DAVID ROBERTS, MW
David Roberts, MW, has spent over thirty years in the wine trade, including over twenty years as head of buying for three of the UK’s most prestigious independent wine merchants – Berry Brothers and Rudd, Lay and Wheeler Ltd and Goedhuis & Co, where he holds the position as Buying Director. David joined the Private Sales team of Berry Brothers and Rudd in 1988 following two years’ work experience in New Zealand and French vineyards. He was appointed Buying Manager in 1993 and in 1995, having passed the Institute of Masters of Wine Examination, was promoted to Buying Director. David moved to Lay and Wheeler in 2001 as Senior Wine Buyer and in 2005 he founded David Roberts Domaines Ltd, which was acquired by Goedhuis in 2010.
Since 1993 David has purchased wines with an accumulated value of £250 million, 95% being from the regions of Europe, which will be the focus of Vintage Capital. His principal areas of expertise have been for the wines of Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone Valley. David has also acquired en primeur fine wine for private client investment, investing almost £4 million over eight vintages from 2005 to 2012. The earlier investments have been realised, delivering good returns to investors.
TOM STOPFORD SACKVILLE
Tom Stopford Sackville has worked in the wine trade all his working life, and joined Goedhuis & Co in 1987, after a short spell with Château Palmer. Tom was appointed Managing Director of Goedhuis in 2005, a position he stills holds. In 2008, Tom moved to Hong Kong, to set up the Goedhuis’ office in the Far East; he returned to Goedhuis' UK office in 2017. Tom has also worked at the prestigious Petaluma Winery in the Adelaide Hills in Australia.
Jamie Strutt started his wine career with the Burgundy specialists Haynes Hanson & Clark. He spent eight years at Berry Brothers and Rudd, setting up the corporate entertaining side of the business, and two years working for Lay & Wheeler looking after private and corporate clients before moving to Goedhuis & Co. During the past twelve years Jamie has looked after a range of different clients including Oxford colleges, city dining rooms, livery companies and private clients and focuses on purchasing wines with investment potential.
